Americares is a

Trusted Charity

Americares donors are extraordinary people who have a genuine desire to help the world’s most vulnerable. Many say that giving to Americares makes them feel good because it’s something they can do to help people and make the world a better place. And Americares shares the stories of the impact donors make around the world and near at home – supporting frontline health workers after a typhoon in the Philippines, responding to a health crisis in Colombia or helping survivors in Ukraine — saving lives and bringing hope to those most in need.

When you give to a charity, you want to know that your hard-earned dollar is being put to the best use.

Charity watchdogs are great resources for charity research – providing impartial third-party ratings on financial efficiency, effectiveness, honesty, accountability, and transparency. Donors can quickly check a charity’s rating before making a gift.

Americares consistently earns a 4-star rating – the highest possible – from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator, for its strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency.

Charity Navigator

Who is Charity Navigator and Why Do They Matter?

Charity Navigator was founded in 2001 and is now the nation’s leading donor advocate and go-to resource for researching charitable organizations.

It’s a great way to find a trusted, effective and efficient charity. You can search charities for free, and they provide helpful lists, like the 10 Best Charities (Americares is included!), 10 Most Followed Charities, 10 charities Worth Watching and more!

You can even find tips for donors – like making informed gifts, giving in times of crisis and the tax benefits of giving.

Their team of analysts developed a rating system to assess over 9,000 of America’s charities, by examining two broad areas of performance: financial health and accountability and transparency.

Charity Navigator doesn’t knowingly solicit contributions from charities they evaluate, so their ratings are uncompromised. It’s also a 501(c)(3) public charity and depends on support from individuals, corporations and foundations to help charitable donors like you make wise decisions with their giving dollars.

Our Impact with Your Giving Dollar

Since it was established 45 years ago, Americares has provided over $23 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the United States.

Emergency Programs

Americares responds to more than 35 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year, establishes long-term recovery projects and brings preparedness programs to communities vulnerable to disasters.

Americares maintains a constant state of readiness, so we can deploy quickly when disaster strikes. Our relief workers are among the first to respond to emergencies, helping to restore health services for survivors. After disasters, we often stay for months —or years—helping communities recover.

Medicine Security

To improve health outcomes for patients and communities, Americares increases accessibility, availability, affordability and acceptability of medicine and supplies for partner health providers.

In a medicine secure community, every clinic, health worker and patient has reliable, equitable access to medicines and medical supplies.

Health Services

Americares delivers and supports quality health services at Americares-run clinics and partners with local health centers to address the unique health needs of their communities, focusing on the root causes of illness and disease.

Americares operates four free clinics in Fairfield County, Connecticut, providing care for nearly 2,000 low-income, uninsured patients annually. Staff at Americares Clínica Integral de Atención Familiar provide low-cost, quality health services in eastern El Salvador, and Americares 13 mobile health centers in India care for more than 50,000 residents. In Colombia, Americares has operated clinics to meet the increasing demand for primary health care services and access to medicines for families fleeing the unprecedented humanitarian emergency in Venezuela.

Your Trust and Generosity Make All Possible

Americares generous donors make all our achievements possible. We are able to respond to more disasters, expand our health programs and save more lives because of the individuals, foundations and corporations that trust Americares to improve the lives of people in the United States and around the world.

Siu Lu was a teenager when she walked into an Americares clinic for routine medical care. She trusted the kind, knowledgeable staff – especially later when she was diagnosed with diabetes.

Because of the support from generous donors, the Americares staff worked hard to find the right medication for Siu Lu so that she could manage her diabetes – without cost to the young woman. And within a year, Siu Lu made lifestyle changes so that she no longer needed diabetes medication.
