Americares Responds to Philippines Typhoon Ewiniar
Late on May 26, Typhoon Ewiniar slammed into the Philippines, bringing heavy rains and floods to the provinces of Quezon and Laguna. More than 52,000 people sought shelter in evacuation centers. The Philippines typhoon, also known as locally as Typhoon Aghon, damaged more than 7,000 homes.
Americares deployed a team from our Manila office with essential supplies, including a water treatment and filtration machine to supply survivors with safe water. In just two days, the team provided 1,800 liters of water and distributed cleaning kits and information on handwashing and hygiene to protect from infection after widespread flooding. The peak of the typhoon season in the Philippines is July through October.
