Stamford, CT, November 9 2004 – The Chronicle of Philanthropy, America’s leading publication for charitable giving, has ranked AmeriCares Foundation as the nation’s sixth largest non-profit recipient of private donations.
AmeriCares received more than $695 million in private contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations for the 2003 fiscal year. The top two charities most supported by private contributions are, respectively, the Salvation Army and the American Cancer Society.
Out of 400 non-profit organizations The Chronicle of Philanthropy compares annually, this year’s distinction reflects exceptional progress for AmeriCares, which ranked 18th last year.
“Not only has AmeriCares increased our private donor support, but we have also been able to keep our operating expenses as low as possible,” says Peter Farnsworth, AmeriCares Chief Financial Officer. “AmeriCares continued its tradition of efficiency in fundraising, keeping management and general expenses below 2% of total expenses.”
The 14th annual “Philanthropy 400,” used financial data gathered from non-profit organizations to determine which charities were most successful in attracting private support from individuals, foundations and corporations during the fiscal year.
