Stamford, CT August 22, 2006 – Lisa Hilmi has been appointed AmeriCares’ Country Director of Sri Lanka, where she will be based. In this position, Ms. Hilmi will oversee the tsunami recovery efforts in Sri Lanka, for the nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization, whose HQ are based in Stamford, CT., USA.

I am eager to put my experience to work for AmeriCares and share in its global commitment to provide assistance to persons in need.”
Ms. Hilmi joins AmeriCares with over 18 years of experience in management, emergency health response, reconstruction, development, research, clinical service delivery and training both domestically and internationally. She most recently served as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in Sri Lanka for the World Health Organization. Prior to that Ms. Hilmi worked in 7 different countries with CARE, IMC and the US government. She is a nurse with experience in pediatric and women’s health.
Ms. Hilmi began her career in international development as a United States Peace Corps volunteer based in Niger, Africa. She received her Master’s degree in Public Health from Columbia University, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Villanova University.
