Dhita Raihan was eight months pregnant when a 6.3 earthquake hit Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on May 27th. As of June 6, the death toll according to the Indonesian government had surpassed 5,800 people, with 3,000 from the Bantul Regency District, and close to 38,000 injured. The worst-hit areas in the regency were Imogiri and Jetis.
Dita, who suffered relatively minor injuries after a large piece of furniture crashed down on her as she was sleeping, worried about injuries to her unborn child. Fortunately, Dhita gave birth to a healthy son, Muhammad Raihan, on June 1. Dhita and her son have since made several visits to a mobile health care unit in Jetis, which treats patients using medicines donated by AmeriCares.
