AmeriCares is providing food and drinks to the people that have been forced from their homes due to the devastating wildfires that have swept through southern California.

Thanks to a generous donation from our corporate partner, Kraft, AmeriCares has delivered two truckloads of food and drinks to shelters in the San Diego area, serviced by our charitable partner, Family Resource Centers. This is enough to replenish supplies for tens of thousands of people who have been displaced.  “On behalf of our Famiy Resource Centers and all of the families and victims of the San Diego wildfires, we wish to sincerely thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donations,” says Geraldine Hill, president of Family Resource Centers.

An AmeriCares relief team traveled to southern California, covering many miles assessing the needs of the displaced people and meeting with a number of humanitarian aid partners to offer support.  AmeriCares has been working with our ongoing corporate partners to obtain donations that meet the additional emergency needs of the victims in California.

Wildfires are not uncommon in this arid part of California, but fierce winds and dry conditions fueled some of the worst fires in the state’s history.  The damage is so extensive that President Bush declared a state of emergency for seven counties on Tuesday.

We continue to work with our charitable and corporate partners as the need for additional basic emergency relief arises.  As exposure to fires like this can lead to respiratory ailments, AmeriCares is in touch with partners that are on standby to offer treatments for such illnesses.
