AmeriCares Sends Emergency Aid to Kenya

  • January 21, 2008

Emergency Response Expert en route and available for comment

Stamford, CT—AmeriCares is sending 6,000 pounds of medicines and medical supplies to Kenya in response to the upheaval following the disputed results from the December elections.  Reports indicate that over 600 people have been killed and over 250,000 have been displaced as a result.  The emergency response shipment is due to arrive on Saturday (January 19) and will be distributed to our health care partner in the country.

The shipment includes antibiotics, topical antiseptics, a variety of analgesics and medical supplies, including critical intravenous solutions, in order to provide treatment and protection from disease outbreaks in the displaced communities.

AmeriCares Emergency Response Manager, Jonathan Hodgdon, is scheduled to arrive in Nairobi on Tuesday (January 22) to meet with our partner and visit camps in order to assess the further health care needs of the communities affected by the continuing violence.
