After decades of war and internal conflict, the need for humanitarian aid for the people of Iraq continues to grow. Millions of people are affected by the turmoil every day and lack access to basic health care.
AmeriCares remains dedicated to providing medicines and medical supplies to those impacted by the war. We recently sent a shipment of essential medicines and supplies as part of our ongoing humanitarian aid to the people of Iraq. The shipment includes antibiotics, gastrointestinal medicines, diagnostic imaging agents and general medical supplies valued at over $950,000. In addition to the medicines and supplies, AmeriCares is also providing wheelchairs, crutches, general perinatal and other birthing supplies.
According to Jim O’Brien, AmeriCares Manager of Eurasia and Middle East Partnerships, “There continues to be a strong call for medicines and supplies to support health care in Iraq, with an increasing demand for assisting women and children. Medicines and medical supplies supporting maternal and birthing needs are in great demand, as are wheelchairs and pediatric crutches for young amputees injured during the conflict.”
AmeriCares works closely with our partner on the ground in Iraq. They will distribute the medicines and supplies to eight hospitals and clinics throughout the country to ensure the aid is delivered to those who need it most.
Since 2003, AmeriCares has sent over 250 tons of medicines and supplies valued at over $25 million to assist the people of Iraq.
