Massive power outages after Hurricane Gustav left Louisiana’s local health services in the dark, but a generous donation of emergency power generators helped two primary health clinics at a time when their community needs them the most.
Evacuees fled so quickly that many forgot to pack their prescriptions and came to the clinics in search of medicines, only to find them without power. AmeriCares emergency response experts identified the need for back-up power and donated heavy duty, self-starting generators to the West Baton Rouge Primary Care Clinic in Port Allen, La., and the Baton Rouge Primary Care Clinic in East Baton Rouge.
The two federally-qualified clinics are members of the National Association of Community Health Centers and, as such, provide free treatment to the homeless and other members of the community who cannot afford health care services. Both clinic directors called to say a big “Thank you” to AmeriCares and our generous donors!
