AmeriCares shipment of over $3 million worth of medical aid arrived safely in Somalia this week. A simple wooden boat carried critical medicines for a dangerous strain of hepatitis, a hard-to-treat virus and to help mental health patients.
Extra care was taken to ensure the boat’s secure arrival at the Bossaso port in northern Somalia. AmeriCares has teamed up with in-country partners to distribute the aid where it’s needed most.
“AmeriCares is pleased with the secure arrival of aid to Somalia,” said Christoph Gorder, AmeriCares Vice President of Emergency Response. “The humanitarian community must have reliable ways to get lifesaving medicines and supplies to even the most challenging locations.”
AmeriCares has provided significant aid such as vital medical supplies and nutritional support to the people of drought and war-stricken Somalia. During the height of the country’s food crisis, AmeriCares delivered nutritional supplements, vitamins and medicines to help meet the needs of its vulnerable people.
