AmeriCares Celebrates 30 Years of Making a Difference

  • May 15, 2012

Stamford, Conn. – May 15, 2012 – AmeriCares will celebrate its 30th anniversary at a gala event in New York City on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, commemorating three decades of helping people live longer, healthier lives.

More than 400 friends and supporters will attend the inspirational evening celebration. Award-winning singer Linda Eder will be the special guest, and the Marble Collegiate Choir will perform.

AmeriCares was founded in 1982 when founder Robert Macauley organized an airlift to Poland at the request of Pope John Paul II. Since that first airlift, AmeriCares has delivered more than $10 billion in medical aid and relief supplies to 164 countries. The organization has provided assistance for people suffering from devastating poverty and disasters all over the world, including the Southeast Asia tsunami of 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In recent years, AmeriCares aided survivors of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and last year’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and continues working to restore health services in both countries. AmeriCares aid deliveries include the United States, where the charity supports health care for the poor and uninsured and responds to tornadoes, floods, wildfires and other emergencies.

“This evening is the culmination of 30 years of improving health and saving lives all over the world,” said AmeriCares President and CEO Curt Welling. “With every aid delivery we are restoring health and hope for people in desperate need. Over the years, we have touched millions of lives, and that’s an accomplishment worth celebrating.”
