Stamford, Conn. – July 19, 2012 – Dorian Drake International employees from White Plains, N.Y., assembled 800 emergency kits for U.S. disaster survivors today at AmeriCares Stamford, Conn., headquarters. The kits, 500 containing soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other hygiene supplies and 300 containing household cleaning products, will be pre-positioned in the aid organization’s Connecticut warehouse for distribution to families across the United States displaced by hurricanes, flooding and severe storms.
“Effective emergency response depends on anticipating needs,” said AmeriCares Director of Emergency Response Garrett Ingoglia. “Thanks to our volunteers, we can respond swiftly to help survivors when a storm strikes.”
The kits will be kept on hand at AmeriCares Connecticut headquarters, ready to be distributed to families in need after a crisis. AmeriCares has provided medical relief and humanitarian assistance to millions affected by natural and man-made disasters for 30 years, including earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, Pakistan and Japan, the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia and Hurricane Katrina in the United States. In 2011, in response to one of the worst U.S. tornado seasons in decades, AmeriCaresdelivered nearly $3 million in aid for U.S. disaster survivors.
