Stamford, Conn. – Oct. 9, 2012 – Women’s networking group 85 Broads selected member Rebecca Desman to join AmeriCares on a whirlwind, 24-hour trip to Guatemala to see its aid programs firsthand during the annual AmeriCares Airlift Benefit on September 29, 2012. Desman is currently a Director in the Institutional Client Group at Deutsche Bank, where she has worked since 2001.
She was selected to represent 85 Broads because of her long-time commitment to humanitarian causes. While working towards her master’s degree in fundraising management, Desman worked closely with the founding members of The Darfur Project, a nonprofit that supplied aid to refugees in Darfur. She is also actively involved in women’s issues worldwide, including her work with Women for Women International where she sponsors job skills training for women in developing countries and lends financial support to women’s businesses.
“Having Rebecca on board greatly enriched our trip to visit hospitals, clinics and nonprofits receiving AmeriCares support,” said AmeriCares President and CEO Curt Welling. “She is an innovative person with enthusiasm for helping others. She exemplifies the selfless spirit of 85 Broads, an organization of successful businesswomen we are proud to partner with.”
85 Broads was founded in 1997 as a networking organization for current and former Goldman Sachs employees who worked at 85 Broad Street, the firm’s former New York City headquarters and other Goldman Sachs offices worldwide. Today, the organization has 30,000 members worldwide – trailblazing women who are inspired, empowered, and connected – through 36 chapters in more than 90 countries. Desman is also a PowerCircle member of 85 Broads.
Desman graduated from Princeton University in 2001 and received her Master’s degree in Fundraising Management from Columbia University in 2007. A Pittsburgh native, she currently resides in New York City.
