The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York, Inc. Donates $250,000 for AmeriCares Sandy Relief

  • November 20, 2012

Stamford, Conn. – Nov. 20, 2012 – The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York, Inc. (JCCI) presented AmeriCares with $250,000 to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey and Long Island. The organization, which promotes strong relationships between Japanese and American communities, donated the proceeds from their 28th Annual Dinner, scheduled for October 30th but cancelled due to the storm, and has additionally established the “Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund” in cooperation with The Nippon Club.

The JCCI first donated to AmeriCares to support relief efforts for the tornadoes that swept through the southern United States in 2011. Since that time, they have continued to support AmeriCares in aiding disaster-stricken areas across the country.

“We are thrilled to accept the generous donation of the JCCI and know that it will help families who have been deeply impacted by Sandy,” said Carol Shattuck, AmeriCares Chief of Staff. “The compassion of this organization will help us restore health services for the people who need them most.”

AmeriCares relief workers have been working nonstop since the hurricane, supplying shelters and aid distribution centers with medical aid, family emergency kits, bottled water, blankets, first aid kits, flashlights and cleaning supplies. The aid organization has a 40-foot mobile clinic traveling to some of the most affected areas, offering storm victims free flu shots, tetanus vaccines and medical care. AmeriCares is also working with free clinics and community health centers to restore health services in affected areas.
