Stamford, Conn. –Dec. 6, 2012 – Boeing is expanding its support for AmeriCares by joining the global health and humanitarian aid organization as an Annual Emergency Response Partner. Boeing, in partnership with its airline customers, has delivered thousands of pounds of crucial AmeriCares medicines and relief supplies to disaster zones all over the world onboard newly delivered airplanes as part of the company’s Humanitarian Delivery Flights Program. Aid deliveries in recent years have included supplies being transported to Chile, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippines.
The aerospace company joins a team of Annual Emergency Response Partners that dedicate consistent funding to AmeriCares Emergency Response Program. Their support allows AmeriCares to conduct needs assessments, pre-position relief supplies in disaster-prone countries, deploy relief workers and stock emergency medicines in AmeriCares warehouses all over the globe.
“Boeing has long assisted AmeriCares aid deliveries through an innovative program that utilizes available cargo space to deliver humanitarian aid,” said Garrett Ingoglia, AmeriCares vice president of emergency response. “As an Annual Emergency Response Partner they are deepening that commitment to help people in crisis by giving us the resources to prepare for disasters in advance and to deploy relief workers and aid the moment disaster strikes.
With the help of Annual Emergency Response Partners, AmeriCares recently launched a major relief program to assist families in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut affected by Hurricane Sandy. AmeriCares also sent relief supplies to families along the U.S. Gulf Coast forced from their homes by Hurricane Isaac, rushed water purification supplies for the recent cholera outbreak in Africa and delivered medical aid for families fleeing the fighting in Syria. In 2011, in response to a brutal drought and famine, Boeing airlifted AmeriCares aid to Mogadishu, Somalia.
“Boeing is proud to partner with AmeriCares in support of their work to monitor global disaster events and conduct in-country assessments in collaboration with global health organizations and governments,” said Liz Warman, director of Boeing Global Corporate Citizenship for the Northwest region. “AmeriCares has unique capabilities to pre-position emergency medical and relief supplies at distribution hubs in key parts of the world, as well as immediately deploy relief workers and aid shipments to disaster sites.”
AmeriCares has provided medical relief and humanitarian assistance to millions affected by natural and man-made disasters for more than 30 years, including earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, Pakistan and Japan, the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia and Hurricane Katrina in the United States. In 2011, AmeriCares responded to 26 emergencies in 17 countries including delivering nearly $3 million in aid for disaster survivors in the U.S. after one of the worst tornado seasons in decades.
