Stamford, Conn. – Dec. 19, 2013 – AmeriCares is pleased to announce Robert M. Baylis has been elected to its Board of Directors. Baylis brings to the board extensive management experience and nonprofit expertise. A former investment banker and former Chairman of the Board of Gildan Activewear Inc., Baylis is the lead director of Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. He also serves as a Trustee and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City, as a Trustee and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and on the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
“I have been a longtime supporter of AmeriCares and believe in its mission to help improve health and save lives,” Baylis said. “I am proud to deepen my commitment to an organization doing such great work all over the world.”
Baylis, who resides with his wife, Lois, in Darien, Conn., is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Business School. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He was Vice-Chairman of First Boston Corporation and Chairman and Chief Executive of C. S. First Boston Pacific when they lived in Hong Kong.
The AmeriCares Board of Directors oversees all aspects of the organization’s humanitarian aid programs including its disaster response work and medical aid deliveries in the developing world. Last year alone, AmeriCares delivered medicines and relief supplies to 91 countries, including the United States where the charity supports health care for the uninsured and underinsured.
