Spirit of Humanity Award Winners Announced for AmeriCares India

More than 200 entrants compete in 5th annual competition

MUMBAI – April 17, 2014 – AmeriCares India announced today the winners of its 5th annual Spirit of Humanity Awards. The annual awards program, held April 16 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Mumbai, showcases achievements of nongovernmental organizations and individuals working to improve health care for the underprivileged. Awards were presented to winners in seven categories: Child Health, Diabetes, Eye Care, Oncology/Palliative Care, Thalassemia, Women’s Health and Jury’s Choice.

More than 200 nominations were received for this year’s competition. All qualified nominations were reviewed by a screening committee consisting of individuals from the social sector and CSR teams from the corporate sector. The top three applicants in each category presented their work to a jury in a transparent, standardized format – all under the supervision of KPMG. The winner in each category received a cash award of Rs.100,000, a Spirit of Humanity trophy and a Certificate of Excellence. The awards are supported by leading health care organizations like Abbott (Child Health), Novartis (Oncology, Thalassemia & Diabetes), Bharat Serums & Vaccines (Women’s Health) and Baxter.

More than 300 distinguished guests including CEOs, CSR heads of leading organizations, faculty and thought leaders in the social sector and leaders of nongovernmental organizations, attended the grand award function. AmeriCares India launched the Spirit of Humanity Awards in 2010 to celebrate the exemplary work of individuals, corporations and organizations assisting health care for the disadvantaged throughout India.
