Stamford, Conn. – April 30, 2014 – AmeriCares and Nestlé Waters North America are delivering two truckloads of bottled water for tornado survivors in Arkansas. More than 73,000 bottles of Nestlé Pure Life® water are headed to the Arkansas Foodbank in Little Rock, which is supplying water and non-perishable food items to Vilonia and Mayflower residents left without power in the aftermath of Sunday’s storms.
“Right now bottled water is among the top needs with thousands of area residents displaced or living in homes without power,” said AmeriCares Emergency Response Manager Kate Dischino, who is heading AmeriCares relief efforts in Arkansas. “We are also working to re-supply health clinics in the area treating the injured.”
AmeriCares staff arrived in Arkansas Monday night and immediately began assessing needs and coordinating aid deliveries. In Kansas, AmeriCares is working with a partner organization to provide TDAP vaccines to protect first responders digging through the rubble. More aid deliveries are expected in the coming days.
AmeriCares has delivered medical relief and humanitarian assistance worldwide to millions affected by natural and man-made disasters for more than 30 years. The aid organization has a long history of responding to U.S. disasters including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Joplin tornado in 2011 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012. After a powerful EF5 tornado last May, AmeriCares delivered more than 50 aid shipments to the Oklahoma City area to help families recover.
