Rice Named AmeriCares CIO and SVP of Innovation

Stamford, Conn. – June 5, 2015 –AmeriCares, the Stamford-based emergency response and global health organization, has welcomed Dennis Rice as its new Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President of Innovation. In his new role, Rice is responsible for technology innovation, process improvement and information systems management for AmeriCares offices worldwide. Rice brings nearly 30 years of experience in the information technology field, most recently serving as chief information officer at MAP International in Georgia.

“Dennis is a demonstrated leader in the field of technological innovation,” said Michael J. Nyenhuis, AmeriCares president and CEO. “His experience managing complex systems and his background in global health will help us stay connected to our field offices and emergency response teams overseas. I am delighted to have him join our senior leadership team.”

Rice first joined MAP International in 1985, taking on positions of increasing responsibility before leaving to serve as an engineer and systems consultant with SalianTech, Inc. in 2002. During this period, he had significant involvement with Microsoft and was directly involved in a number of new Microsoft technology platform projects for five years as a part of the Microsoft MVP Technology Program, including serving as a contributing writer for Microsoft’s Expert Zone on their corporate website. Rice also successfully led his own IT consulting firm for six years and served as a co-founder, managing partner and editor of GottaBeMobile.com, a technology news website. He returned to MAP in 2008 as Chief Information Officer, where he served on the executive team and managed a successful four-year Enterprise Resource Planning implementation project.

At AmeriCares, Rice oversees systems including an inventory management system that tracks more than $500 million in donated medicine and relief supplies annually. His team also manages communications for the AmeriCares offices in El Salvador, Haiti, India, Liberia and the Philippines and ensures emergency response teams stay connected in post-disaster settings with frequent power outages.

“As a thought leader and major player in the global emergency response and health program sector, AmeriCares has a clear vision and need for technology to improve the lives of underserved populations,” Rice said. “We are developing technology initiatives that will help people recover from crisis and build better lives.”
