CDC Director Frieden to Speak on Zika and Other Epidemics

Stamford, Conn. Sept. 14, 2016 Dr. Tom R. Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will be the keynote speaker at a Sept. 20 panel discussion on epidemics at the 2016 Concordia Summit in New York.

“Epidemics Challenging Progress: Collaborative Opportunities to Stem the Tide” will bring together leading health experts from the public, private and nonprofit sectors to explore drivers of recent epidemics, lessons learned and the role of public-private partnerships to prevent and combat future epidemics. The plenary session is hosted by Americares,a health-focused relief and development organization that responds to disease outbreaks worldwide,in partnership with Concordia.

Dr. Peter Salama, executive director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Program; Dr. Seth Berkley, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; and Susan Silbermann, president and general manager of Pfizer Vaccines; will also participate in the panel discussion moderated by ABC News’ Chief Health and Medical Editor Dr. Richard Besser.

The session begins promptly at 9 a.m. in Plenary East, ballroom level, at the Grand Hyatt New York.
