#TisTheGiving
Stamford, Conn. – Nov. 28, 2018 – More than 100 volunteers packed hygiene kits at Americares headquarters and distribution center yesterday, Tuesday, Nov. 27, as part of the nonprofit organization’s #GivingTuesday campaign. Volunteers from Deloitte LLP, ICBC Standard Securities Inc./ICBC Standard Resources Inc., JPMorgan Chase, Nestlé Waters North America, Odyssey Group, RTi Research, UBS, Wings Unlimited and community members worked in shifts making 3,000 hygiene kits for distribution to disaster survivors worldwide.
The kits contain essential hygiene items, including soap, shampoo and toothpaste, and are distributed to families displaced by tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, wildfires and other emergencies.
“Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to involve the community in the work that we do,” said Americares Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer Christine Squires. “Our volunteers look forward to rolling up their sleeves and helping Americares make thousands of emergency kits because they know those kits will be put to good use all over the world.”
Now in its seventh year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and the generosity of people around the world. The annual event, celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, kicks off the charitable giving season. Founded by New York City’s 92nd Street Y, #GivingTuesday inspires millions of people to give back and support causes they believe in.
Americares helps communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters, increase access to medicine and medical supplies, improve and expand clinical services, prevent disease and promote good health. The health-focused relief and development organization responds to an average of 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year from earthquakes and cyclones to disease outbreaks and civil conflict.
