Americares Promotes Squires to Executive Vice President

Stamford, Conn. – July 30, 2019 – Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, today announced the promotion of Christine Squires to executive vice president. In this elevated role, Squires will provide leadership to critical organization-wide initiatives that advance Americares mission of saving lives and improving health for people affected by poverty or disaster. She will also retain her current role as chief development officer and continue to lead fundraising efforts for Americares health programs worldwide.

“Christine has played a pivotal role in Americares success over the past three years and we are excited for her to take on an expanded leadership role,” said Americares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis. “She will be instrumental in driving internal efforts that will make us even more effective as we continue to grow, while allowing more freedom to focus on our future at a time when the forces of change in our industry are accelerating.” 

Americares helps communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters; increase access to critical medicine and medical supplies; improve and expand clinical services; and prevent disease and promote good health. Americares carries out health programs in over 20 countries and maintains offices in Colombia, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Liberia, Nepal, the Philippines, Tanzania and the United States, including Puerto Rico. 

Squires has 20 years of senior leadership experience in the humanitarian sector. Prior to joining Americares in 2016 she served as chief operating officer for Physicians for Human Rights, where she oversaw the organization’s global development and strategic planning efforts. Squires also headed up growth and fundraising for Human Rights Watch and spent 10 years at the United States Fund for UNICEF.

Squires, a resident of Greenwich, Conn., holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Delaware and is a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership’s Executive Development Program.
