Stamford, Conn. – Aug. 12, 2021 – For the sixth consecutive year, Americares has earned a 4-star rating—the highest possible—from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator, for its strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. Only 14 percent of the charities evaluated by Charity Navigator have received at least six consecutive 4-star evaluations.
“We are honored to once again receive Charity Navigator’s highest rating,” said Americares President and CEO Christine Squires. “It underscores our commitment to being a fiscally responsible and transparent organization and assures donors that they can trust Americares with their contributions.”
Since 2002, using objective analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, to its ratings methodology. These Accountability and Transparency metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders.
“Only 14% of the charities we evaluate have received at least 6 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Americares outperforms most other charities in America,” Charity Navigator President and CEO Michael Thatcher wrote in a letter to Americares announcing its new rating. “This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Americares apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness.”
