PARTNER PROFILE:
Since 1986, Medtronic and the Medtronic Foundation have worked with Americares to save lives and improve health in over 100 countries. Drawing on a shared commitment to emergency response and health system strengthening, we are driving impact on communities from Southeast Asia to Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean to United States. Medtronic has supported Americares emergency shipments to more than 60 countries and in times of both crisis and calm, their in-kind support of medical supplies has provided aid to more than 125 countries. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Medtronic Foundation helped deliver more than 1.4 million protective masks for health workers on the front lines in the U.S.
Medtronic has recruited its full slate of resources—products, financial resources, leaders and staff—to bring health and well-being to people around the world. The company has supported Americares mission with medical gift-in-kind projects, financial grants and event sponsorships. Medtronic was the presenting sponsor of Americares 2016 and 2017 Annual Airlift Benefits. As part of the events, Medtronic employees traveled with Americares to El Salvador and Guatemala to see their contributions in action. Additionally, the Medtronic Foundation has given thousands in matched gifts.
Medtronic is an Americares Emergency Response Partner, providing key resources that allow us to maintain a response platform of medicines, supplies and people—ready to respond in a moment’s notice. In addition, Medtronic has been quick to take action in the wake of some of the largest disasters in recent history, providing us with key resources to save lives and restore health after emergencies including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Africa Ebola crisis, Hurricane Sandy, earthquakes and tsunamis in the Pacific and the earthquake in Haiti. The Medtronic Foundation is also supporting COVID-19 response by supporting the procurement of personal protective equipment. “We are committed to supporting the courageous front line workers who are delivering critical services to those in need,” said Paurvi Bhatt, president of the Medtronic Foundation. “We have worked with Americares on a variety of disaster response efforts over the years and this trusted partnership is helping to get PPE to those in need fast so they can stay safe as they care for patients with COVID-19.”
Medtronic product donations have helped support several emergency response efforts, enabling us to pre-position medicines and supplies so we can respond swiftly and effectively to disaster events around the globe. Wound care products from Medtronic were instrumental in relief efforts following Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and in helping to replenish hospital supplies and personal protective gear in West Africa during the Ebola outbreak.
Extending its commitment to good health to those in need here at home, in 2016 Medtronic made a generous multi-year commitment to the Americares Free Clinics—four free clinics that provide high-quality primary care to uninsured and underinsured residents in Danbury, Norwalk, Bridgeport and Stamford, Connecticut. By giving to Americares Free Clinics, Medtronic is fulfilling its philanthropic mission to help patients with chronic illnesses manage their conditions and expand and improve healthcare access in underserved communities.
In response to the Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan, in 2016 Medtronic launched a $1.2 million-dollar commitment to address the strain on the country’s health systems. The company pledged to provide direct support to Americares in its work to open new health clinics and expand access to primary care in refugee host communities that lack sufficient capacity. Medtronic also partnered with the Jordanian Ministry of Health and the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization.
Medtronic is the world’s largest standalone medical technology company, developing innovations and breakthrough medical technologies as well as essential support products and services that are used along the entire continuum of care. Medtronic therapies treat nearly 70 conditions, including some of the world’s most challenging chronic diseases. The Medtronic Foundation partners to improve health for underserved populations, as well as supports communities where Medtronic employees live and give. It drives lasting impact through the support of highly engaged nonprofit partners who share its commitment to responding to local needs and by harnessing the ingenuity of Medtronic employees globally.
