“We work with an outstanding local partner, Malamulo Hospital, to help save lives and improve the quality of life of women and children living with the disease. I visited a woman with HIV/AIDS who participates in the Home- Based Care Program. Sitting on a mat on the floor of her hut, we listened to her current challenges. As the nurse gave her pain medications and therapeutic nutrition – I thought about how a little help goes a long way in a place like Malawi.”

Malawi was once the breadbasket of Africa, the people of this beautiful country now suffer drought, famine and among the world’s highest rates of HIV/AIDS.
But they have hope for their future…But they have hope for their future. This mom is one of the many who participate in AmeriCares Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS program in Malawi.
HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death with 14% of the population infected and nearly 100,000 people dying each year.AmeriCares is working with its health care partners in Malawi to provide important support services for HIV-positive mothers and their children.
