Stamford, Conn. – April 27, 2022 – Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, is pleased to announce the election of Walter Weil to its Board of Directors. Weil brings to the board wide-ranging experience in financial services, having held key senior management and advisory roles at several top investment management firms.
“We are thrilled to have Walter join the board,” said Americares President and CEO Christine Squires. “He brings a wealth of business experience, and his insight will be a tremendous resource as we continue to expand Americares reach.”
Weil will serve a three-year term on the Americares Board of Directors, which oversees all aspects of the organization’s life-changing health programs, including its disaster response work and support for 4,000 under-resourced hospitals and health clinics worldwide.
Weil currently serves as a managing director at TowerBrook Capital Partners, a purpose-driven investment management firm headquartered in London and New York. Prior to joining TowerBrook, he held roles at The Blackstone Group, Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers.
Weil has been a staunch Americares supporter since 2020, helping the organization raise critical funds to support its global COVID-19 response, serving as a member of Americares Leadership Council and co-chairing the 2021 Americares Airlift Benefit alongside his wife, Deirdre Dunn.
“I am honored and excited to join the Americares Board of Directors,” said Weil. “I look forward to working together to advance Americares mission of saving lives and improving health for people affected by poverty or disaster around the world.”
Americares helps communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters; increase access, availability, affordability and acceptability of medicine and medical supplies; improve and expand clinical services; and prevent disease and promote good health. Since its founding more than 40 years ago, Americares has provided more than $20 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the United States.
Weil earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business, where he currently serves on the Leeds Advisory Board. Weil also serves as a trustee for the University of Colorado Foundation. He and his wife live in Brooklyn, N.Y.
